BRYAN WILSON – 03.07.2023

It’s Game Day!

The Wranglers host the Colorado Eagles on Tuesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome for the third meeting in their last three games. The team’s split the previous two contests, with both games featuring a little bit of everything: physicality, scoring, highlight-reel saves and a fantastic finish for the Wranglers on Saturday night.

Head-2-Head: CGY- 4 COL – 2

HOME: Calgary Wranglers (38-15-3) (79 Pts. – 1st in Pacific)

AWAY:  Colorado Eagles (30-17-4)  (67 Pts – 4th in Pacific)

In six meetings this season, the Wranglers have won four games against the Eagles, including an exciting ending in their most recent tilt. Calgary scored two goals with the goalie pulled to tie the game late in the third period, forcing extra time where Jeremie Poirier – who is 3-for-3 on shootouts this season – scored the deciding goal in the shootout for a 6-5 (SO) win.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS:

  • March 4, 2023 @ Colorado Eagles – CGY W (SO), 6-5
  • March 3, 2023 @ Colorado Eagles – COL W, 3-1

HEATING UP:  #25 Jeremie Poirier

JP is heating up!

Poirier – who leads all rookie defencemen in scoring (37 Pts.) – has been elevating his game as of late. He has four points (2g, 2a) in his last two games against the Eagles and is likely to be a factor once again on Tuesday night.

CGY Player to Watch: #22 Dryden Hunt

Keep an eye out for No.22 Dryden Hunt tonight.

The 27-year-old from Cranbrook, BC made a great first impression in his first game with the Wranglers. Hunt was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs last week (in a trade that sent Radim Zohorna to T.O.) and picked up a goal and an assist in his debut against the Eagles on March 4, 2023.

“I was actually really excited,” explained Hunt. “It’s been a long year for me, a couple different teams, so to be coming to a place where I’m familiar, with guys I’m familiar with, I was really excited.”

Hunt hopes the momentum from the Wranglers’ comeback victory against Colorado on Saturday will transfer to tonight against the Eagles.

“They’re a really good team,” said Hunt. “I really like the way we responded though, when we were down two goals. I think the way we played and persevered was huge, so hopefully we can carry that energy into tonight.”
