A late heartbreak saw Calgary fall 6-5 in overtime to Tucson at the Scotiabank Saddledome Saturday night, with William Stromgren, Daniil Miromanov, Carter King, Dryden Hunt and Rory Kerins finding the scoresheet for the Wranglers.

Box Score

The visitors struck first on the powerplay as Miko Mtikka opened the scoring, but Calgary hit back.

Stromgren hauled the puck end to end on the man advantage, had his initial pass attempt deflect off a defender, then stayed with it to muscle the puck to the crease and level the game at 1-1.

Tucson regained the lead late in the frame via Kevin Rooney, sending the Wranglers into the intermission trailing by one.

The second period turned into a battle.

Ben McCartney made it 3-1 for Tucson before Calgary pushed back.

Miromanov blasted home a one-timer from the top of the zone after taking a feed from Aydar Suniev to spark the comeback.

King tied it shortly after, getting a crucial touch on Turner Ottenbreit’s point shot to beat Jaxson Stauber.

Calgary grabbed its first lead of the night thanks to a momentum-swinging shorthanded goal from Hunt, who picked up the puck in the defensive zone, charged up ice and snapped it past Stauber from the top of the left circle.

Tucson had the final say of the period, though, as Owen Allard tied it at 4-4 heading into the third.

The Wranglers dug once more in the final frame.

Kerins restored the lead, taking a pass from Sam Morton atop the crease and tucking it home to make it 5-4.

Calgary was ready to close it out, but Tucson defenceman Dimitri Simashev stunned the Saddledome with the equalizer with just 17 seconds left in regulation.

Overtime needed just one chance, as Scott Perunovich ended it for the Roadrunners, sealing a 6-5 decision despite a resilient, offence-driven night from the Wranglers.
