The Wranglers fell in a 4-2 contest against the San Jose Barracuda at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Feb. 25, with Aydar Suniev and Ryan Chyzowski providing the offence for the home side.

BOX SCORE

Patrick Giles struck shorthanded for San Jose early.

The Barracuda doubled their lead before the intermission through Mattias Havelid.

The Wranglers pushed back in the middle frame and were rewarded on the powerplay.

Suniev set up shop at the top of the crease and snapped home a feed from Sam Morton, slipping it past netminder Gabrielle Carriere to cut the deficit in half.

Momentum stayed on Calgary’s side, and Chyzowski made an immediate impression in his debut.

Skating in on a two-man rush with Suniev, Chyzowski held the puck, picked his spot and wired it past Carriere for his first as a Wrangler, levelling the game at 2-2.

But the response was swift.

Oliver Wahlstrom restored San Jose’s lead moments later, beating Ivan Prosvetov to swing the tide back in the visitors’ bench.

Egor Afanasyev extended the gap for San Jose, 4-2 to seal the result.
