The Wranglers fell 5-4 in overtime in their home-opener to the Coachella Valley Firebirds at the Scotiabank Saddledome , despite goals from Clark Bishop, Rory Kerins, Matvei Gridin and Bishop again with a short-handed marker.
Calgary came out flying in the opening frame, as Bishop opened the scoring off a slick give-and-go with Andrew Basha.

The Firebirds cut the deficit late in the period through Jakov Novak, making it 2-1.
In the second, Gridin continued his hot streak, firing home his third goal in as many games off a setup from William Strömgren.

But Coachella refused to go quietly, getting one early in the third via Jagger Firkus.
Captain Bishop restored the two-goal cushion with a short-handed beauty, thanks to some hard work from David Silye.
But the Firebirds stormed back once more.
Logan Morrison made it 4-3 before Firkus struck again to level things and force extra time.
Overtime saw Jacob Melanson net the winner for Coachella Valley, sealing a 5-4 final and a hard-fought point for the Wranglers, who’ll look to regroup before their next tilt.
The Wranglers will look to level the series against their rival Firebirds on Oct. 25 at the Saddledome at 6 PM. GET TICKETS.
