The Wranglers fell 5-3 to the Laval Rocket at the Scotiabank Saddledome, with Dryden Hunt, Lucas Ciona and Aydar Suniev finding the back of the net for the homeside in the team’s Festival De Calgary contest.

Box Score

Laval struck first via Filip Mesar early, but Calgary answered back.

Hunt hauled the Wranglers level midway through the frame, ripping a left-circle wrister past Jacob Fowler after Martin Frk set the table.

Momentum swung back to the visitors late in the period, however, as David Reinbacher restored Laval’s lead with a shorthanded marker to make it 2-1 after 20.

The Wranglers found their stride in the second and were rewarded.

Ciona jumped on a rebound from David Silye who skated the puck end-to-end to tie the game for the Wranglers.

Suniev gave Calgary its first lead, getting a piece of Zayne Parekh’s point shot on the way through.

Parekh marked two assists in the game.

Laval pushed back and found an equalizer late in the frame, with William Trudeau knotting things up 3-3 heading into the third.

The final period belonged to the Rocket.

Adam Engstrom broke the deadlock early, and Jared Davidson added an insurance goal to seal it.

The Wranglers will have an opportunity for redemption on Monday Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. when they face off against the Rockets for the last time at home.
