The Wranglers dropped a 5-1 decision to Manitoba at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, with Martin Frk netting Calgary’s lone goal in a tough loss on the road.
It was a first period to forget from a Wranglers perspective.
Samuel Fagemo opened the scoring for the Moose to give the homeside an early edge.
Manitoba kept their foot on the gas as Danny Zhilkin added another, capitalizing on sustained pressure in the offensive zone.
The Wranglers pushed back in the second period, particularly on special teams.
Calgary went a perfect three-for-three on the penalty-kill.
But momentum slipped when Fagemo buried his second of the night, extending the Moose lead to 4-0.
Calgary finally broke through in the third.
Frk extended his team lead with his 17th of the season, wiring home a finish after a slick saucer pass from William Stromgren.

Stromgren’s 24th assist of the campaign set up the play, and Frk made no mistake, beating Thomas Milic clean to get the Wranglers on the board.
Any hopes of a late push were halted when former Wrangler Walker Duehr struck shorthanded to make it 5-1, extending his point streak to seven games and sealing the result.
Calgary will look to earn a split when the two sides meet again on Monday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. MT.
