A late push wasn’t enough as the Wranglers fell to the Abbotsford Canucks 3-1 on Thursday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Jordan Oesterle scored the Wranglers lone goal with assists from Cole Schwindt and Brett Sutter.
The game was scoreless after 20-minutes. The Wranglers managed to kill off three penalties in the frame.
Connor Murphy made 12-saves in the first.
The Canucks opened the scoring 6:22 into the second-period on a short side blocker shot to make the score 1-0.
The Wranglers went to their first powerplay of the night halfway through the second and managed three shots but couldn’t find the back of the net.
The score was 1-0 after 40-minutes.
Jakob Pelletier nearly evened the score eight-minutes into the final stanza on a partial breakaway but hit the post on the near glove side.
After the Wranglers pressed, the Canucks got a fortunate bounce at the side of the Calgary net to make the score 2-0 with 8:51 to go.
Calgary got their third powerplay of the night with 3:21 remaining and finally found the back of the net as Jordan Oesterle ripped one from the point through traffic to make it 2-1 with 2:59 to go.
For Oesterle, is was his 100th career AHL point.
The Wranglers pulled their goalie but it was the Canucks finding the empty net to finish this one off, 3-1.
The two teams go head-to-head again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. TICKETS
