It’s a quick turnaround for the Wranglers as they square off once again against the Abbotsford Canucks, searching for redemption in the back half of their weekend doubleheader.
The Matchup
The Wranglers earned a single point on Dec. 13 in a hard-fought 3-2 overtime loss to Abbotsford.
Calgary struck first, with Rory Kerins opening the scoring.
The Canucks responded in the second period, as goals from Nick Poisson and Mackenzie Eachern pushed Abbotsford ahead.
Etienne Morin brought the Wranglers back into the fight late in the third, burying his first career AHL goal to force overtime.
However, it was Jonathan Lekkerimäki who sealed the win for Abbotsford in the extra frame.
Looking to bounce back, the Wranglers aim to return to the win column after dropping four of their last five games.
Despite the recent stretch, Calgary remains fourth in the Pacific Division with a 12-10-4-1 record and 29 points.
Kerins continues to be a player to watch, recording three points over his last three games.
He sits at 22 points on the season while also being recalled to the Calgary Flames mid-November.
The Other Side
Abbotsford arrived ready to compete and will be pushing for a weekend sweep.
After suffering a doubleheader loss to the Coachella Valley Firebirds, the Canucks gained momentum with their overtime victory on Dec. 13.
Veteran defenceman Jet Woo rejoined the lineup Saturday after clearing waivers on Dec. 8.
Returning from injury and offseason surgery, Woo skated in his first game back after missing time.
Last season, he appeared in 67 regular-season games for Abbotsford, tallying two goals and 18 points.
