The Wranglers wrap up their final home doubleheader of the month against the Ontario Reign today and tomorrow at the Scotiabank Saddledome before heading out on a 10-game road trip.
The Matchup
The Wranglers face off against the Ontario Reign, who currently sit third in the Pacific Division, just one point ahead of Calgary.
Calgary enters the series looking to rebound after a pair of tough losses to the San Jose Barracuda (Nov. 6, 4-3; Nov. 8, 4-1).
Assistant Captain Nick Cicek says the team is focused on moving forward:
“Short memory is important,” said Cicek. “You watch videos with the coaches, see what you need to work on, but now it’s time to move on, worry about the next team, the next opponent, and go win a hockey game.”
Rookie standout Matvei Gridin continues to impress early in the season. Sitting second on the team in points (11) and fifth among AHL rookies, Gridin is proving he belongs at the pro level.
“Just gotta keep scoring, keep making plays, and play my best,” said Gridin. “It’s helped build my confidence for sure, it’s good to see that the coaches trust me.”
The Other Side
The Ontario Reign (7-4-1) come into the weekend after splitting a doubleheader with the San Diego Gulls (Nov. 7, 6-4 L; Nov. 8, 4-3 W).
This series marks the first meeting between Calgary and Ontario this season.
Forward Taylor Ward leads the Reign with nine points (6G, 3A) through 12 games, ranking 16th in the league in goals.
