The Matchup
The Wranglers are in Abbotsford to face off against the 2025 Calder Cup Champion Canucks, their first meeting of the 2025-26 season.

Calgary heads into this matchup coming off a 4-3 victory over the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Oct. 25, splitting the weekend doubleheader after a tight 5-4 overtime loss the night before.

Game Recap

Veteran forward Dryden Hunt continues to lead the charge for the Wranglers with eight points, ranking ninth overall in the AHL.

Hunt has been a consistent force early this season, registering four multi-point performances through just five games.

Last season, Calgary posted a 7-4-0-1 record against Abbotsford and will look to build on that success as they carry momentum into this road trip.

But it doesn’t come without improvements.

“I think our game management needs work,” said Head Coach Brett Sutter, ahead of the team’s upcoming stretch away from home.

Following Saturday’s win, Sutter added, “we made it a bit of an easy night for them (Firebirds), and I think the guys know that. It’s early in the season, it’s a learning moment. Now we move on and get ready for the next one.”

A late adjustment paid off in the third period of Saturday’s game when Sam Morton, William Strömgren, and Matvei Gridin were paired together, and the trio connected for a key goal.

“Morty had a great game tonight, and I wanted to see if I could get Grids and Strommer going a bit, and sure enough, they got a goal,” Sutter explained.

“Sometimes you just have to shake things up to get the group going.”

The Other Side
Abbotsford will look to rebound after a tough road swing that saw them drop back-to-back games in Ontario, Calif., by identical 5–2 scores on Oct. 24 and 26.

Forward Ben Berard has been a bright spot for the Canucks early this season. Leading the team with four points, Berard is making the most of his opportunity in the AHL after spending most of last season with the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings.
